Government Jobs: General Workers (15)

Zululand District Municipality is looking for 15 General Workers who will be performing general duties on work sites under the supervision of qualified artisans.

Salary: R9 162,29 per month plus benefits

Location: Nongoma (×5), Ulundi (×5), and Abaqulusi (×7)

Closing Date: July 4th, 2022

Requirements:

• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Be physically fit and able-bodied.
• Be prepared to work in all weather conditions.
• Required to work outside normal working hours during emergencies and planned overtime.
• Must be prepared to enter confined areas such as manholes, and pipes culverts.

Duties And Responsibilities:

• Receive guidance from the artisans and attend to the preparation of the work site. For example, placing road signage, loading or offloading equipment tools, and so forth.
• The successful candidate will also be responsible for fastening slings or ropes and guiding or holding material equipment during the loading or unloading sequence.
• Provide support to the plumbing Team during the marking off of work areas or sites like holding measuring tapes and inserting level indicators.
• Excavating and backfilling trenches to defined levels using hand-held tools like spades, picks, etc.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Preparing requisite quantities (concrete, mortar, and so forth) and proceeds with mixing sequence.
• Laying pipes and/or laying and compacting cement mixes and soil to reinforce structures using handheld tools like pipes, hand-stamper, spades, etc.
• Cleaning and removing blockage debris and alien vegetation from drainage systems (manholes, pipes, canals, etc) using hand-held tools.
• Removing and washing off debris from tools and equipment.
• Placing and stacking tools/equipment in vehicles, observing sequence and procedures that support safe transits.
• Physically loading materials and other products and/or holding and guiding plant or equipment during the hosting and placement.
• Removing debris/rubble, etc, and cleaning websites to ensure sites are cleaned and safe for public use and equipment tools and materials are removed upon completion of activities by laid down instructions.
