Transnet Marine Services Job Opportunities: Transnet invites interested applicants who passed Grade 10 to apply for Marine Shorehand positions.
The successful candidates will be responsible for providing berthing services, water supply, housekeeping, pollution control, and navigational aids maintenance and dry-lock.
Moreover, they will be required to undergo training programmes in all aspects of duties.

Transnet Marine Services Job Opportunities Minimum Requirements:
- Must have passed Grade 10 and have NIL experience.
- Be willing to work shifts as required and operate in a multi- skilled, multifunctional environment.
- Physically fit and capable of performing all duties ( there will be a Rope Test and Medical assessments during the selection process).
- Ability to undertake arduous physical work at all times, in all weather conditions.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Willing to work outside of Port confines in the event of environmental emergencies, and to
work extended hours if required to work in emergency situations e.g. salvage.
Additional Requirements – Knowledge:
- Basic seamanship incl. knots and rope and wire splicing.
- Sequencing of mooring ropes/wires on bollards.
- Correct methods of preparation and painting of metal and wooden surfaces.
- Equipment used in supply of fresh water to vessels including identification, deployment,
maintenance and stowage. - The equipment used in pollution prevention, spillage cleaning and salvage operations including identification, deployment, maintenance and stowage.
- Procedures involved in combating pollution within the Port area including waterborne debris, oil and chemical spillage and safety precautions to be observed.
Duties And Responsibilities:
- Berthing Services – berthed and Sailed Services.
- Water supply – Provide fresh water to vessels and assist with the maintenance of equipment like hoses, stand pipes and meters. Replace washers.
- Pollution Control – removal of debris from water and shore, assist with salvage operations, crew ob harbour pollution crafts.
- Housekeeping – cleaning and packing, prepare crafts for functions, and prepare passenger terminals for passenger vessels and functions.
- Navigational aids maintenance and drylock – splicing of ropes and wires, placing blocks in dry-locks and on wharfs for buoys, and thr chipping, scrapping and painting of buoys.
