The successful candidates will be responsible for assisting the miner perform safe declaration, and perform visual inspections of equipment.

De Beers Group: Underground Mining Assistants Minimum Requirements:

• Interested applicants must have passed Grade 12/N3 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification and be in possession if a valid Code 8/EB Driver’s License.
• Strong administrative and organisational skills.
• Willing to work shifts, do standby duties, callouts, and work overtime as per what the role may require.
• Required classification as per VTS testing for the Mining Assistants role.
• Ability to be working at heights, work under pressure, be independent and a self-starter.
• Medically fit (A medical certificate of fitness to work underground)

Advantageous:

Although not required/essential, the following skills or certificates will be an added advantage:

• A competent B and A certificate for Underground or/and Blasting Assistance certificate for Underground.
• Underground mining practices and operations, blasting practices and operations, construction services, drilling knowledge and skills.
• Knowledge of Safety, Health and Environmental Legislation and standards applicable to underground mining.
• At least one year practical experience in an underground environment.

Duties And Responsibilities:

• Perform all activities according to instructions, procedures and mining needs and participate in cost saving initiatives and adhere to financial procedures.
• Conduct efficient housekeeping of equipment and work area in accordance with departmental requirements.
• Contribute to a culture of zero harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation and health, safety, environmental and security policies and procedures, and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion.
• Perform visual Inspections of equipment before, and during operation according to departmental procedures to minimise breakdowns and operational losses by the timeous reporting of defects or abnormalities to the Supervisor.
• Assist the Miner to perform safe declaration (SLAM)

Please Note: A Medical assessment will include vertigo and claustrophobia amongst others. The applicant must be able to tolerate physical exertion. Furthermore, by applying for this role, applicants will ne subjected to verification checks.
