Phase V: Teacher & General Assistants Applications Now Open – The Department of Basic Education has officially opened applications for Phase V of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) through the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI).
This exciting opportunity is aimed at empowering unemployed South African youth by placing them in roles within public schools as Education Assistants and General School Assistants.
Applications open from 22 April 2025 to 09 May 2025 at 23:59, and successful candidates will begin their contracts on 02 June 2025. Interviews will take place between 19 May and 31 May 2025.
Phase V: Teacher & General Assistants Applications Now Open – What’s on Offer?
Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend of R4,000, less a 1% UIF contribution. In addition, participants will receive R30.00 data support to assist with connectivity.
Phase V: Teacher & General Assistants Applications Now Open – Available Positions:
Education Assistant Roles (Minimum Matric Required): These roles are focused on supporting teaching and learning in the classroom. Roles Include:
- Curriculum Assistants
- Reading Champions
- e-Cadres (ICT integration support)
- Care and Support Assistants (for psychosocial support)
- Laboratory Assistants
- Workshop Assistants
Please Note: While a minimum of matric is required, preference will be given to applicants with tertiary qualifications, especially those related to Education.
General School Assistant Roles (No Matric Required):These roles are geared toward supporting the overall school environment, including infrastructure and extracurricular activities. Roles include:
- Handymen/Women (maintenance of school infrastructure)
- Sports and Enrichment Assistants (leadership in sports, arts, and cultural programs)
Who Can Apply?
To qualify, you must:
- Be a South African citizen aged 18–34
- Have a South African bank account
- Live within 5km of an urban school or within 30km of a rural/farm school
This phase is open to youth who participated in Phases I, II, III, and IV as well.
