JICS: Correctional Centre Visitors – Applications Now Open: The Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS) is calling on passionate and responsible South Africans to apply for the role of Independent Correctional Centre Visitor (ICCV).
This position plays a crucial role in monitoring correctional centres, ensuring the safety, dignity, and human rights of inmates, and assisting the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) in maintaining high standards of care and accountability.
As an ICCV, you will be responsible for visiting correctional centres regularly, observing the conditions under which inmates live, and reporting on any irregularities or incidents. Your role is vital in maintaining transparency and promoting humane treatment within the correctional system.

Contract Duration: 36 months
Salary: R85,620 per annum (Level 5, 3/8th), plus 37% in lieu of benefits

- Conduct frequent visits to assigned correctional facilities.
- Engage with inmates to understand concerns, challenges, or complaints.
- Monitor mandatory matters such as deaths in custody, use of force, segregation, and disciplinary incidents.
- Prepare detailed reports for the Inspecting Judge based on observations and findings.
- Support investigations and assist JICS officials during inspections.
- Maintain accurate records of all visits, observations, and communications.

- Applicants must hold a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent.
- Recommendation or nomination from a recognized community organization (not older than six months).

- A valid driver’s license is an advantage.
